Shaolin Monks is so far the last spin-off ever made for the series. The Game Over screen takes place in Goro's Lair with a hanging skeleton on the wall with glowing eyes in the darkness, bones are seen on the floor.

A secret Game Over screen exists, it'll take place in The Pit instead of Goro's Lair, scrolling down to the bottom of the said stage, showing gory detail of the stage's foreground feature, impaled heads on spikes. In the Super Nintendo version of Mortal Kombat, the Game Over tagline appears after the timer runs down to zero, it will not take the player into Goro's Lair while doing so.
